Who is This Mini-Course For?

This mini-course is intended for early-career professionals employed in the biotech industry, and for graduate or undergraduate students who intend to work in biotech. It is also suitable for people outside of the biotech field who’d like to better understand the drug development process and its interplay with the U.S. Healthcare system.

We’ve found that it’s surprisingly common for people to complete degrees in biology, chemistry, and related fields without getting much (or any!) exposure to how the biotech industry actually works. People who start careers in biotech are often very excited to develop drugs that will improve and save lives. But without knowledge of how the drug development process works and intersects with business interests, health insurance, and government regulation, they can later find themselves confused, disillusioned, and frustrated.

We created this course so that from early on, biotech professionals will be empowered and set up for greater success by understanding the broader context in which they operate. This course contains valuable perspectives and information that you’re not likely to find anywhere else!

We also hope this mini-course will inspire those who complete it to become confident, effective advocates for policies that protect innovation and improve access, so that biopharmaceutical companies can continue to develop critical treatments and insurance can make them available to EVERYONE who needs them.
