This mini-course is broken down into 8 short chapters, plus 1 final review chapter and an optional exam you can take if you’d like a certificate of completion. We’ve designed the information to build on itself, and for this reason, you must go through the content in order.
The Nine Chapters are:
1: Why Develop New Drugs?
2: Where Do New Drugs Come From?
3: All About the Money! Venture Capital Investment in Biotech Innovation
4: Why New Drugs Are So Expensive (And Why Your $5 Generic Isn’t)
5: The Journey from Brand to Generic and What Can Go Wrong
6: Why Insurance is So Important (and How It’s Broken)
7: The Big Problems With Insurance (and How to Fix Them)
8: Confronting the Threat to US Biomedical Innovation
9: Course Wrap-up and Recap + Optional Final Exam
Each chapter features videos and articles relevant to the topic. Sometimes we provide links to sources of further information in case a topic catches your interest and you’d like to dive deeper. When a video or article we share is optional, we clearly flag it with the label [OPTIONAL]. We highly recommend you watch or read everything else we link to.
Each chapter features one or more “Check Your Understanding” quizzes which are an important way to make sure you’ve grasped the key concepts. Taking these quizzes will help you do well on the final exam, and is required to advance through the material.
If you’d like to earn a certificate of completion for this course, you have the option of taking a final exam once you’ve completed all of the chapters. Once you’ve taken every “Check Your Understanding” quiz, you should be in excellent shape for the final exam!
